Meet the Team

If you had told my younger self that one day I'd get excited about gardening, 3D puzzles, Hallmark movies, and counting down to Christmas, I would've laughed and asked if you had the wrong person. Yet here we are. Apparently, this is what your 40s look like. I grew up in Rochester Hills and now call Lake Orion home, where life revolves around kids' sports, snack runs, and wondering how it's already 9 p.m. Somewhere along the way, my BF Jessica, my fiancé Ryan, and I looked at each other and thought, "You know what sounds relaxing? Starting a business!" So we became the co-owners of Rustler & Rye Hat Bar. Creating custom hats, bringing people together, and seeing someone's face light up when they find their hat makes it all worth it. (Fun fact: Jessica and Ryan are cousins!) Food is my love language. If there's a cheese board, a dirty martini with blue cheese-stuffed olives, and good company, I'm happy. If the olives disappear before the drink is gone... mind your business. I'm fluent in sarcasm, known for random voices and impersonations, and fully committed to making people ugly laugh with completely unnecessary comments. So that's me—a sports mom, small business owner, Christmas fanatic, coffee lover, plant collector, puzzle addict, cheese enthusiast, dog lover, and a fiancée somehow trying to plan a wedding in the middle of all the chaos. And honestly? I wouldn't have it any other way.

Hi, I'm Jessica! Mom of three, youngest of six, and Co-Founder of Rustler & Rye. My faith and family are the foundation of who I am. I grew up in a big family where my cousins were basically extra siblings, so life was always loud, full of laughter, and centered around making memories together. It’s where I learned that the best moments are the ones spent with the people you love. I never imagined I'd end up burning hats for a living, but apparently life had other plans. Somewhere between a love for coffee, a creative streak, and one "this is probably a terrible idea"... that somehow wasn't... conversation with one of my closest and dearest friends, Rustler& Rye was born. Thankfully, it turns out people love custom hats just as much as we do! If I were the "Rye" in Rustler & Rye, I'd be neat, a little bold, and fully supportive of ignoring your budget in the name of great hats. Financial advice? Absolutely not. Hat advice? I've got you.

I’m the Creative Director at Rustler & Rye, where I get to bring creative ideas to life alongside my fiancée, Janeen, and my cousin, Jessica. For more than 30 years, I’ve worked as a custom furniture builder and finish carpenter, designing and building pieces that are made to last. That career taught me the value of quality craftsmanship, attention to detail, and creating something truly one of a kind—principles I bring to every custom hat we create. I love helping people turn an idea into something they can proudly wear. Whether it’s choosing the perfect branding iron or adding custom designs, my goal is for every customer to leave with a hat that tells their own story. Outside the shop, I’m a proud father of two, a coffee snob who appreciates a great cup, and someone who’s always looking for an excuse to hop on my bike or start a new project. If I’m not building something, you’ll probably find me quoting The Big Bang Theory, drinking an ice-cold Dr Pepper, or making sure no one else gets the last slice of Costco cinnamon bread. Rustler & Rye is where my passion for craftsmanship and creativity comes together.
